Everyday Chic Dress: Red Stipes

This dress started when I fished the coolest red and white striped fabric out of the bin at SAS Fabrics in September. It was lightweight and flowy and I knew it would be the perfect dress. Now that I live in the desert, I am always on the look out for dress fabrics. I hit the jackpot. I decided to sew it up into an everyday chic dress from Sew

Sewing and Shame

So this week has been a bit dark for me in regards to sewing.  I’ve been working on the #sewfrosting project. I’ve shared a lot in my Instagram stories about what I am doing and my inspiration images and will do a proper post here when done. But something happened this week that threw me. I drafted a top with a knot in the neckline. My original idea was to

October Makes

October was such a fun sewing month as it always is. I just love Halloween. I already posted about the kid’s Hogwart’s costumes. Steve had the brilliant idea to be Burt Macklin and Janet Snakehole from Parks and Recreation this year. It was fun pulling our looks together. I only needed to do a bit of sewing, it was mostly glueing and taping. For Janet Snakehole: I actually had everything

October Spending

October spending! So this month I had a small dilemma. I went to a really fun sewcial here in Arizona and the swag was amazing. Not only did I get some incredible new fabric and patterns but I came home with a bag full of coupon codes too. Coupon codes are so tempting and useful and I’m really grateful for the generous sponsors. So you know that I am only

Hogwarts Halloween

Its the most wonderful time of the year! Not Christmas. Halloween. My absolute favorite holiday. Its so creative and spooky and fun and full of candy. Its the best. In our house we love a good theme for our costumes. This year King H decided to be Harry Potter and Lady (who had originally wanted to be Fancy Nancy) immediately decided she had to be Hedwig. Done. And she’s been

Soma Swimsuit

It might seem crazy to be sewing new swimwear in September but I live in Arizona now and its crazy hot and our pool is heated so I’ll be swimming year round. Also I practically wore my other Soma Swimsuit every day this summer and having another one will prevent those terrible “putting on a wet swimsuit” moments. My third Soma Swimsuit by Papercut Patterns is maybe my favorite one

September Makes

September really saw the return of my sew-jo. I feel like it has taken me a bit to get settled here in Arizona. Obviously any big move requires changes and flexibility and patience with everything. I decided I would just wait until school started to figure it all out. Where should my sewing machines live so that they were easily accessible? When would I have time to sew and cut

September Spending

A little background. In 2017 I made a New Year’s resolution to not buy clothing for an entire year. I wanted to really commit to a completely handmade wardrobe and step away from the fast fashion mentality. Well, it turns out I can sew pretty quickly and making clothes didn’t really stop me from consuming. At the end of the year, I had learned a lot about creating clothing but

Welcome to beckie girl

Blogging. I kind of can’t believe I am blogging again. Remember when everyone blogged? I used to avidly blog about my life especially during both of my pregnancies and I even had a blog where I shared home decor ideas. There is something about sitting down and writing more than just a blurb to go with an instagram picture that I want to get back to. I thoroughly enjoy being
